Runner on stairs is helpful to extend the life of your stairs and the carpet is placed over it as it protects it from clay, dirt, paint and other stains. Estimate the width and size of the staircase. Measure the width of the staircase through inches. You can either completely cover the staircase with the plastic stair runners, or set a certain width. Afterwards measure the desired length through the linear foot. You can measure with inches first to make it easier, and then convert to linear foot later. Include the appearance of each step in your calculation.
Measure a single step first. Add the values for the rise and run in the step. Afterward, multiply the amount with the number of steps in your staircase as you want a stair runner. You can add an extension of estimation if something goes wrong with estimation. An extra two feet will be done because you can cut it off after installation.
Buy a suitable stair runner. Plastic stair runners are available in different widths. The most common is 27 inches, 36 inches and 48 inches. Make sure you clearly indicate the width you need based on your stairs and the desired length in the linear foot to prevent unnecessary trimming. If you plan to install stair runners with screws or nails, buy the corresponding stair rods based on the number of stairs you have.
